The library will reopen on Saturday, December 26 with its scheduled hours of 9 AM to 3 PM.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The library will also be closed at 12 PM (Noon) on Thursday, December 31, 2009 and will be closed on January 1, 2010. The rental period is still 2 days for a new DVD rental, and 3 days for DVDs that have been in our collection 90 days or more.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color:#cc6600;"&gt;TAX BENEFITS OF GIVING TO PIGEON DISTRICT LIBRARY&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color:#666600;"&gt;Michigan Income Tax:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;By donating to the Pigeon District Library you can receive up to half of your donation back on your Michigan Income Taxes. You receive a credit of 50% of the contribution directly off your income tax. (Maximum of $100 for single return or $200 for joint return).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color:#666600;"&gt;Federal Income Tax:&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Donations to the Pigeon District Library count as Gifts to Charity in the Federal Tax Code and therefore can be deducted from your income if you itemize your deductions. You get the benefit of deducting entire donation from your income even though you get up to half of it back on your Michigan Income Taxes.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color:#cc6600;"&gt;BOOK CLUB&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;There will be no book club meeting in December due to the holiday season. Book Club will resume in the month of January 2010. Inter-loan statistics included 227 items borrowed and 355 items loaned to other libraries through the Valley Library Consortium. From the MeLCat library system 79 items were borrowed and 26 items loaned and on the Peabody system 5 items were loaned to other libraries. Income received included $139.15 from Copier, $232.00 from Fines, $66.00 from Faxes. Four Story Hours were held with 44 in attendance. Pigeon Postmaster Peggy Hoppe and volunteers assembled gift packages for service men and women in the library’s Community Room. The post office provided the flat rate mailing boxes and tape. Monetary donations covered the cost of mailing the seventy-six boxes that were packed.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Thank you to Joy Leipprandt for coordinating the project at Elkton-Pigeon-Bay Port Schools, to Steve Langford at Independent Bank for receiving and recording the monetary donations, and to Pigeon District Library for providing the work space and for the refreshments for the volunteers. Organizers hope to convince legislators to maintain $10 million in state aid to libraries and to support efforts to keep the Library of Michigan as a whole unit with the state government.  The goal, also, is to convince the Governor to include library officials on the planning committee which will determine the use of the building and collections currently housed in the Michigan Historical Center and Library of Michigan building. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;All library supporters are invited to attend this event. The graduates were Ashlee Guigar, Hannah Helmuth, Hannah Keim, Kami Maust, and Katie Turner. Each graduate received a diploma for completing story hour. Guest speakers for the event were Officer Tom Morneau and Deputy Charlie Do Right from the Huron County’s Sheriff Department. Their topic was on safety and after their presentation Deputy Do Right received hugs from the children.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color:#cc6600;"&gt;LAP-SIT STORY TIME AND PRE-SCHOOL STORY HOUR&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;“Fun Day” will be the theme held on Tuesday, September 1, 2009. Usually one half hour session is held for Lap-Sit Story Time each Tuesday at 10:00 AM with parent and child attending the Story Time and Pre-School Story Hour is held each Tuesday at 10:30 AM. Inter-loan statistics included 317 items borrowed and 339 items loaned to other libraries through the Valley Library Consortium. From the MeLCat library system 41 items were borrowed and 47 items loaned and on the Peabody system 5 items were loaned to other libraries. Income received included $132.45 from Copier, $188.05 from Fines, $50.00 from Faxes. Five Story Hours were held with 117 in attendance. Seventy-one registrations for the month included: Caseville 23, Chandler 5, Fairhaven 7, McKinley 5, Oliver 16, Winsor 14 and 1 from other townships.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color:#cc6600;"&gt;BOOKPAGE&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The August 2009 issue of BookPage has arrived and can be found in the library’s Information Center. “A monthly general interest review, BookPage covers the best in new releases. BookPage typically reviews up to 100 of each month’s new fiction, nonfiction, business, children’s, spoken word audio and how-to books. The tone is upbeat and literate, focusing on bestsellers as well as new discoveries.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color:#cc6600;"&gt;INTERNET USE&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Pigeon District Library provides computers with Internet connection so patrons can access their e-mail accounts and information that cannot be found locally.&lt;br /&gt;The following activities which consume large amounts of bandwidth are prohibited-online gaming, file sharing, and streaming audio and video. Streaming audio and video are files that you are listening to or viewing while you are online. Chatting and instant messaging is also prohibited.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color:#cc6600;"&gt;FREE CONSUMER INFORMATION CATALOG&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;The Summer 2009 Consumer Information catalog has arrived and can be found in the library’s Information Center which is located near the Nitz Street entrance. The sixteen-page catalog lists free and low-cost information on cats, computers, education, employment, family, federal programs, food, health, housing, money, small business, travel, and more.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color:#cc6600;"&gt;DON’T FORGET YOUR LIBRARY CARD&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;To prevent errors from occurring, library patrons are required to present their library card or driver’s license when checking out library materials. This parallel reality is eerily similar to her own life, only much better. When the adventure turns dangerous, Coraline must count on her resourcefulness, determination, and bravery to get back home and save her family.” The film is rated “PG” and has a run time of 101 minutes. Usually one half-hour session is held for Lap-Sit Story Time each Tuesday at 10:00 AM with parent and child attending the story time and Pre-School Story Hour is held each Tuesday at 10:30 AM. In both sessions, children listen to stories and participate in finger plays, songs and crafts. There is no cost for this service and new families are always welcome. The meeting is open to the public.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color:#cc6600;"&gt;LOCAL OBITUARIES ONLINE&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The library now has an online file of Huron County obituaries. To search for an obituary, click on the “Local Obituaries” link in the left-hand column of our home page. Then click on the first letter of the deceased person’s last name to view the names which are listed by calendar year, and then click on the name of the person. To view the obituary, click on the “Open” tab.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color:#cc6600;"&gt;SUMMER SATURDAY HOURS&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;During June, July, and August, the library’s Saturday hours will be 9 AM -1 PM.
