For the past eight weeks, our adult patrons have had the opportunity to participate in the library’s first reading program for adults. The Pigeon District Library Board of Trustees will meet on Thursday, March 26, 2009 at 4:30 PM in the library’s Community Room. The meeting is open to the public.

There will be no story hour on Tuesday, March 31, 2009. Usually one half-hour session is held for Lap-Sit Story Time each Tuesday at 10:00 AM with parent and child attending the story time and Pre-School Story Hour is held each Tuesday at 10:30 AM. In both sessions, children listen to stories and participate in finger plays, songs and crafts. There is no cost for this service and new families are always welcome. “Get Between the Covers and Read” is the theme of our first, adult winter reading program which started January 15 and will end March 15. We think it will be a lot of fun for our adult readers, but participation is totally optional. Local businesses have donated lots of wonderful prizes for our weekly drawings and for our end-of-program party.

“Introduction to Chess” will be led by Michael Gaeth and is scheduled for Tuesday, March 3rd from 4:00 – 5:00 PM and Thursday, March 5th from 4:00 – 5:00 PM. Come in to learn the basics of playing the game of chess. (We will provide the game board and pieces.) If enough people are interested, a schedule will be set up so players can get together to play chess on a regular basis. ADULT WINTER READING PROGRAM
“Get Between the Covers and Read” is the theme of our first, adult winter reading program which started January 15 and will end March 15. We think it will be a lot of fun for our adult readers, but participation is totally optional. Local businesses have donated lots of wonderful prizes for our weekly drawings and for our end-of-program party.
CONGRATULATIONS
The library staff would like to congratulate Roma Laffrey on being the fourth winner in the weekly drawing for the Adult Winter Reading Program. Roma will receive a free book, and an 8 lb. bag of Sunkist oranges by Pigeon Food Pride.
LAP-SIT STORY TIME AND PRE-SCHOOL STORY HOUR
“Pigs” will be the theme for Tuesday, March 3, 2009. Usually one half-hour session is held for Lap-Sit Story Time each Tuesday at 10:00 AM with parent and child attending the story time and Pre-School Story Hour is held each Tuesday at 10:30 AM. USED BOOK SALE
The Friends of the Pigeon District Library will be having its March Used Book Sale on Saturday, March 7 in the Reference Room of the library from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM. Prices range from $.25 to $3.00. Also, don’t forget the On-Going Used Paperback Sale. Paperbacks are always available on the bookshelf to the right of the aquarium in the Children’s Room.
NEW CLASS-INTRODUCTION TO CHESS
“Introduction to Chess” will be led by Michael Gaeth and is scheduled for Tuesday, March 3rd from 4:00 – 5:00 PM and Thursday, March 5th from 4:00 – 5:00 PM. Come in to learn the basics of playing the game of chess. (We will provide the game board and pieces.) If enough people are interested, a schedule will be set up so players can get together to play chess on a regular basis. Interested persons are asked to call the library at 989-453-2341 or come in to sign up for either or both sessions. If you are already an experienced chess player and are interested in playing chess on a regular basis, please stop by the library or call so your name can be given to Michael Gaeth.

Four Story Hours were held with 29 in attendance. Thirty registrations for the month included: Caseville 9, Chandler 1, Fairhaven 8, McKinley 4, Oliver 5, and Winsor 3.

LAP-SIT STORY TIME AND PRE-SCHOOL STORY HOUR
“Show and Tell" will be the theme for Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009. Usually one half-hour session is held for Lap-Sit Story Time each Tuesday at 10:00 AM with parent and child attending the story time and Pre-School Story Hour is held each Tuesday at 10:30 AM. In both sessions, children listen to stories and participate in finger plays, songs and crafts. There is no cost for this service and new families are always welcome. For more information, please call the library at 453-2341 and ask for Jane Himmel.

High website have been copied and put into spreadsheet files. Staff members at the Pigeon District Library have bolded the titles on each list that are in our library’s collection. Memorials to the library are often done on the occasion of the passing of a loved on and are also an appropriate way of honoring and remembering friends and relatives on anniversaries, birthdays, graduations, notable achievements, retirements, and weddings.
A card is sent to the honored person acknowledging your memorial gift and a book plate honoring the person is placed in the item which the library has purchased with your donation.

GIVING TREE UPDATE
The Pigeon District Library received a thank you note from the Pigeon Community Food Pantry for the books donated by local area children. Enough books were donated so that thirty-five children received 2 books each, for a grand total of 70 books donated and wrapped for Christmas giving.
ADULT WINTER READING PROGRAM
“Get Between the Covers and Read” is the theme of our first, adult winter reading program which is scheduled for January 15 – March 15. We think it will be a lot of fun for our adult readers, but participation is totally optional. Local businesses have donated prizes for our weekly drawings and for our end-of-program party.
LIBRARY BOARD MEETING
The Pigeon District Library Board of Trustees will meet on Thursday, January 22, 2009 at 4:30 PM in the library’s Community Room. The meeting is open to the public.
LIBRARY HOURS
The library now closes at 6 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Through March, the library hours are Monday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Tuesday 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Thursday 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Friday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and Saturday 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
LIBRARY SERVICE AREA
The Pigeon District Library serves the residents and property owners in Caseville, Chandler, Fairhaven, McKinley, Oliver, and Winsor Townships. Registration takes only a few minutes and children as young as three may get a library card, with parent’s permission.
People who live outside our service area may purchase a non-resident card or may check out our materials as a “Visiting Patron” when they bring in the library card from their home library.
