LAP-SIT STORY TIME AND PRE-SCHOOL STORY HOUR

“Show and Tell" will be the theme for Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009. Usually one half-hour session is held for Lap-Sit Story Time each Tuesday at 10:00 AM with parent and child attending the story time and Pre-School Story Hour is held each Tuesday at 10:30 AM. In both sessions, children listen to stories and participate in finger plays, songs and crafts. There is no cost for this service and new families are always welcome. For more information, please call the library at 453-2341 and ask for Jane Himmel.

The Accelerated Reader lists from Lakers Elementary School website and Lakers Jr.
High website have been copied and put into spreadsheet files. Staff members at the Pigeon District Library have bolded the titles on each list that are in our library’s collection. For each school, one list of titles is in alphabetical order and another list is in book level order. Simply click on the file you wish to view and wait for the list to load.

MEMORIALS

Memorials to the library are often done on the occasion of the passing of a loved on and are also an appropriate way of honoring and remembering friends and relatives on anniversaries, birthdays, graduations, notable achievements, retirements, and weddings.

A card is sent to the honored person acknowledging your memorial gift and a book plate honoring the person is placed in the item which the library has purchased with your donation.

GIVING TREE UPDATE

The Pigeon District Library received a thank you note from the Pigeon Community Food Pantry for the books donated by local area children. Enough books were donated so that thirty-five children received 2 books each, for a grand total of 70 books donated and wrapped for Christmas giving.

ADULT WINTER READING PROGRAM

“Get Between the Covers and Read” is the theme of our first, adult winter reading program which is scheduled for January 15 – March 15. We think it will be a lot of fun for our adult readers, but participation is totally optional. Local businesses have donated prizes for our weekly drawings and for our end-of-program party.

LIBRARY BOARD MEETING

The Pigeon District Library Board of Trustees will meet on Thursday, January 22, 2009 at 4:30 PM in the library’s Community Room. The meeting is open to the public.

LIBRARY HOURS

The library now closes at 6 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Through March, the library hours are Monday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Tuesday 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Thursday 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Friday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and Saturday 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

LIBRARY SERVICE AREA

The Pigeon District Library serves the residents and property owners in Caseville, Chandler, Fairhaven, McKinley, Oliver, and Winsor Townships. Registration takes only a few minutes and children as young as three may get a library card, with parent’s permission.

People who live outside our service area may purchase a non-resident card or may check out our materials as a “Visiting Patron” when they bring in the library card from their home library.

FREE CONSUMER INFORMATION CATALOG

The Winter 2008-09 Consumer Information catalog has arrived and can be found in the library’s Information Center which is located near the Nitz Street entrance. The sixteen-page catalog lists free and low-cost information on cars, computers, education, employment, family, federal programs, food, health, housing, money, small business, travel, and more.

BOOK PAGE

The January 2009 issue of BookPage has arrived and can be found in the library’s Information Center. “A monthly general interest book review, BookPage covers the best in new releases. BookPage typically reviews up to 100 of each month’s new fiction, nonfiction, business, children’s, spoken word audio and how-to books. The tome is upbeat and literate, focusing on bestsellers as well as new discoveries.” BookPage can also be accessed through the internet at www.bookpage.com.
