FREE PARK & READ PASSES
Back for a fourth summer, the DNR and the Library of Michigan are offering their Park & Read program at more than 400 participating libraries across the state.

While checking out a book, Park & Read allows library cardholders to “Check-out” a one-day pass that waives the Recreation Passport entry fee into any Michigan state park or recreation area. This $10 savings also provides a one-time fee access to more than 500 events taking place in state parks throughout the summer, and to make the day even more relaxing, some of the state parks are offering the loan of a hammock.

Passes are valid for seven days from checkout and can be used for one day at any Michigan state park, recreation area, museum or historic site. Passes are valid for day use only. The program runs through October 1, 2012.

HURON COUNTY COMMUNITY FOUNDATION GRANT
The Youth Advisory Committee of the Huron County Community Foundation recently awarded a $300 grant to the Pigeon District Library for our project “Downloadable E-Books for Youth”. The money is being used to purchase downloadable e-books that are of interest to pre-teen/teen readers. These titles will be added to our library’s Advantage Collection in OverDrive which is available to Pigeon District Library card holders through a link on our website at www.pigeondistrictlibrary.com.

Anyone who resides or owns property in the City of Caseville or the townships of Caseville, Chandler, Fairhaven, McKinley, Oliver, or Winsor may register for a free library card at the Pigeon District Library. Free library cards are also available to students who live outside the library’s service area but attend a school in our service area. Children who are between the ages of 3 and 17 must be registered by a parent or guardian.

Patrons may submit titles for purchase consideration through the library’s facebook page or by placing a note in the library’s suggestion box at the Circulation Desk.
