A new program for young readers is set to begin on Monday, November 14th at 4:00 PM in the library’s Community Room. Intended for children in grades 1-3 who are reluctant readers, “Paws for Reading” encourages children to read by providing a non-judgmental listener and furry friend to read to that won’t laugh at them if they make a mistake or stumble over a word, but rather lies next to them and enjoys the story being read to him.

A child who signs up for the program will spend ten minutes reading aloud to the therapy dog (and his handler). If this is something that your child would like to do, please call the library at 453-2341 to sign-up for an available time slot.

The library currently has one therapy dog and its owner who are willing to help with this program. The dog is licensed, certified and insured through Therapy Dogs, Inc. If you own a therapy dog and would be interested in assisting with this program, please call the library at 989-453-2341 and ask to speak with Library Director Jeanette Bach.
