LAP-SIT STORY TIME AND PRE-SCHOOL STORY HOUR
“Christmas.” will be the theme for Tuesday, December 21, 2010. There will be only one story hour for both sessions. The session will begin at 10:30 AM. The children will be singing Christmas carols at a local senior citizen facility. One half-hour session is usually held for Lap-Sit Story Time each Tuesday at 10:00 AM with parent and child attending the Story Time and Pre-School Story Hour is held each Tuesday at 10:30 AM. In both sessions, children listen to stories and participate in finger plays, songs and crafts. There is no cost for this service and new families are always welcome. FOOD FOR FINES-DECEMBER 20-31, 2010
Start the year 2011 free of fines. For every canned/boxed item you bring to the library, we will reduce your fine by $1.00. These non-perishable items will then be given to the local food pantry to replenish their shelves.
HOLIDAYS DVD RENTALS-DECEMBER 20-31, 2010
From December 20 to 31ST, patrons can rent DVDs at half-price for the holiday season. The rental period is still 2 days for a new DVD, and 3 days for DVDs that have been in our collection 90 days or more.
BOOKPAGE
The December 2010 issue of BookPage has arrived and can be found in the library’s Information Center. “A monthly general interest book review, BookPage covers the best in new releases. BookPage typically reviews up to 100 of each month’s new fiction, nonfiction, business, children’s, audio, and how-to books. The tone is upbeat and literate, focusing on bestsellers as well as new discoveries.” BookPage can also be accessed through the internet at www.bookpage.com.

Library hours are Monday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Tuesday 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Thursday 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Friday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and Saturday 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
COFFEE TIME AT THE LIBRARY
Hot coffee, cocoa, and tea are available on Thursdays in the Reference Room of the library. Come and relax with a cup of coffee, cocoa, or tea while reading the newspaper or visiting with fellow readers.

When the weather outside gets frightful, please call the library or listen to WLEW to make sure the library will be open for your reading needs.
MICHIGAN ELECTRONIC LIBRARY (MeL)
The Michigan eLibrary (http://mel.org) provides all Michigan residents with free access to online full-text articles, full-text books, digital images, and other valuable research information at any time via the Internet; and provides an easy-to-use interlibrary loan system to allow Michigan residents to borrow books and other library materials for free from participating Michigan libraries.
You can access the MeL databases, through our library website at www.pigeondistrictlibrary.com. Click on the MeL (Michigan eLibrary) link which is located in the middle of our homepage. From the next screen click on “MeL Databases” to view the list of 50+ databases which are listed in alphabetical order.
Each week the Pigeon District Library will introduce one of the databases in the Michigan eLibrary. The database chosen for this week is “Educator’s Reference Complete. This database is recommended for educators and parents. Educator's Reference Complete is a selection of more than 450 full-text academic journals, hundreds of full-text reports, and many premier reference sources. Included content focuses on educational principles, child development and psychology, and best practices in education. Majority of the full-text titles included are also found in the ERIC database. The database is updated daily and provides 24-hour access from school or home.” Patrons are able to access this database from home is they have internet access and are a Michigan resident or have access to a Michigan library.
