LIBRARY HOURS


Monday and Friday: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Tuesday and Thursday: 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM
Saturday: 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM

SATURDAY FALL HOURS
Beginning Saturday, September 1, the library will be open from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

LABOR DAY CLOSING
The library will be closed on Monday, September 3 for Labor Day and will reopen on Tuesday, September 4 at its regular scheduled time of 9:00 AM.

NO LAP-SIT STORY TIME AND PRE-SCHOOL STORY HOUR-SEPTEMBER 4
There will be no lap-sit or story hour on Tuesday, September 4, 2012. Usually a half-hour Lap-Sit Story Time is held for toddlers at 10:00 AM with parent and child attending the story time and Pre-School Story Hour is held at 10:30 AM. In both sessions, children listen to stories and participate in finger plays, songs, and crafts. There is no cost for this service and new families are always welcome. THURSDAY REFRESHMENTS
Cold lemonade is available on Thursdays in the Reference Room of the library. Come and relax with a cup of lemonade while studying, reading the newspaper or visiting with fellow readers.

HIDS LITERACY PLAYGROUP AT THE PIGEON DISTRICT LIBRARY
SEPTEMBER 6TH AT 5:00 PM
The Huron Intermediate School District and area libraries have partnered to
bring literacy playgroups to the following communities in 2012: Bad Axe,
Harbor Beach, Pigeon, Port Austin and Ubly. Melissa Stirrett with the HISD
will be at Pigeon District Library Thursday, September 6th from 5-6 PM.
Literacy Playgroups are free and open to any child birth to preschool. There
is no need to pre-register, just show up with your child and be ready to
read, play, and interact with other children and parents. Literacy playgroups
provide children with a variety of books, toys, and activities to
participate in. During the session children will hear a story, have a snack,
and play.

The library provides many services for its patrons and general public:
1. Internet Access - Patrons and visitors wishing to access the Internet must have a signed internet policy on file. There is no usage fee and wireless Internet service is also available.

2. Book Club-The book club meets in the library’s Community Room on the last Tuesday of every month at 6:30 PM.

3. Black and white copies can be made in the following sizes:
8.5 inches by 11 inches - 10 cents per side
8.5 inches by 14 inches - 10 cents per side
11 inches by 17 inches - 25 cents per side

4. Color copies can be made in the following sizes:
8.5 inches by 11 inches - 50 cents per side
8.5 inches by 14 inches - 75 cents per side
11 inches by 17 inches - $1.00 per side

5. Fax Services - Faxes may be sent from and received at the library. The following prices apply: Cover sheet - no charge when it contains nothing other than contact information. Each page sent with or without cover page - $1.00. When sending a fax, be sure to take the Fax Transmission Receipt with you when you are finished.

6. Lamination Services-
8.5 inches by 11 inches - $1.00
8.5 inches by 14 inches - $1.40
11 inches by 17 inches - $1.75

7. Local Obituaries-The library maintains a database of local obituaries which can be accessed through a link on our home page.

PIGEON DISTRICT LIBRARY SERVICES AVAILABLE TO LIBRARY CARDHOLDERS
1. Downloadable Audio-Books and E-Books from OverDrive can be accessed by clicking on the “OverDrive” link on the library’s home page.

2. Books by Mail- a free service of the Pigeon District Library to the residents and property owners in Caseville, Chandler, Fairhaven, McKinley, Oliver, and Winsor Townships and the City of Caseville.

3. Interlibrary Loan (ILL) - Pigeon District Library card holders, who are in good standing, may request interlibrary loan items from other libraries. Patrons may place their own reserves using the library catalogs (VLC or MeLCat) or by asking a staff member for assistance. Reserves will be held at the Circulation Desk for 7 days.

4. NewsBank – PDL patrons can access archived issues of the Huron Daily Tribune dating back to Dec. 2001 and archived issues of seventeen “America’s News Magazines”. Patrons access NewsBank through a link on the PDL home page by entering their fourteen-digit barcode number.

BOOKPAGE
The August 2012 issue of BookPage has arrived and can be found in the library’s Information Center. “A monthly general interest book review, BookPage covers the best in new releases. BookPage typically reviews up to 100 of each month’s new fiction, nonfiction, business, children’s, audio, and how-to books. The tone is upbeat and literate, focusing on bestsellers as well as discoveries.” BookPage can be accessed through the internet at www.bookpage.com.

PROGRAMMATIC ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT (PEIS)
The library has received a copy of the Final Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement (PEIS) for Northern Border Activities CD-ROM and draft Record of Decision (ROD). This is available to patrons for in-library review through August 31st. If you are interested in reviewing this, please inquire at the Circulation Desk. Individuals may obtain information on the status and progress of the Northern Border PEIS at http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/about/sr/.
