STORY HOUR
“Snow” will be the theme on Tuesday, December 1, 2009.

Usually one half-hour session is held for Lap-Sit Story Time each Tuesday at 10:00 AM with parent and child attending the Story Time and Pre-School Story Hour is held each Tuesday at 10:30 AM. In both sessions, children listen to stories and participate in finger plays, songs and crafts. There is no cost for this service and new families are always welcome. For more information, please call the library at 453-2341 and ask for Jane Himmel.

GIVING TREE
With the holidays approaching, please consider the “Gift of Reading” by donating a new or gently used book and placing it under our GIVING TREE, which will be located in our Children’s Room after the Thanksgiving holiday. Book donations are being sought for boys and girls in the following age categories: 0-5, 6-9, and 13-16, with the greatest need in the 13-16 category. Books which are donated will be wrapped by library staff and patrons and will be picked up by the Pigeon Area Food Pantry in time to be delivered to children in time for Christmas.

COFFEE TIME AT THE LIBRARY
Hot coffee, cocoa, and tea are available on Thursdays in the Reference Room of the library. Come and relax with a cup of coffee, cocoa, or tea while reading the newspaper or visiting with fellow readers.

USED BOOK SALE
The Friends of the Pigeon District Library will be having its December Used Book Sale on Saturday, December 5, 2009, in the Reference Room of the library from 10:00 AM – 11:30 PM. Prices range from $.25 to $3.00. Also, don’t forget the On-Going Used Paperback Sale. Paperback books are always available on the bookshelf to the right of the aquarium to the Children’s Room.

Some of the games available-Scrabble Slam Card Game, Monopoly Deal Card Game, Pictureka! Card Game, Pictureka! Board Game, Twister, Memory Card Games for the younger children, Chutes and Ladders Board Game, Candy Land Board Game, several other games will be available for children to try out.

Huron Area Writers Group meeting

The Huron Area Writers Group will be holding an organizational meeting to gauge the interest level and support for a writing club. Once established, we will continue to meet on the third Thursday of each month. The meetings and club are open to all writers at all levels. Any residents who have an interest in or a love for writing are welcome.

BOOK CLUB
The book for discussion at the November meeting will be “The Wednesday Sisters” by Meg Waite Clayton. The next scheduled meeting is Tuesday, November 24 at 6:30 PM.
This meeting will be held at Country Bay Village, which is located at 161 Country Bay Drive. Country Bay Village is located across the street from the tennis courts and ball fields in Pigeon. If you or someone you know would like to join us for a discussion on this book, please call the library and ask for Jane Himmel.

LIBRARY CLOSED
The library will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 26th. The library will reopen at its regular time of 9 AM on Friday, November 27th.

LOCAL OBITUARIES ONLINE
The library now has an online file of Huron County obituaries for patrons to view. To search for an obituary, click on the “Local Obituaries” link in the left-hand column of our home page. Then click on the first letter of the deceased person’s last name to view the names which are listed by calendar year, and then click on the name of the person. To view the obituary, click on the “Open” tab and once the information is downloaded you will then be able to read the obituary.

You Donate $5. We give you $10 to spend! The Friends of the Pigeon District Library (FOPDL) are selling Community Day Event coupons booklets for $5.00 each. All proceeds go to the Friends of the Pigeon District Library. The sale will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at the Younkers store in the Bay City Mall and other Bon-Ton stores listed in the booklet.

Inside the coupon booklet is one $10 coupon to spend at Younkers or any other Bon-Ton store. Also included are eight 20% off coupons, pre-sale advantages, and bonus buys. Exclusions do apply so check your coupons carefully before shopping.

COUPON WORKSHOP
Using coupons at the store can save you money! You are invited to attend the free classes on “couponing” which will be led by Carissa Alexander. The classes have been held the on Tuesdays in November from 4:30 PM – 6:00 PM in the library’s Community Room. The last class is scheduled for November 17 and will cover rebates.

LIBRARY HOURS
Starting Nov. 3, the library will be closing at 6 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The library hours will be Monday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Tuesday 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Thursday 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Friday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and Saturday 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

USED BOOK SALE
