CHILDREN’S BOOK WEEK –MAY 11-17
To celebrate Children’s Book Week, there will be a special story hour on Thursday, May 14th at 4:30 PM. Throughout the week children will have the opportunity to enter their names in drawings for a number of book prizes. Come and join the fun at the Pigeon District Library.
LAP-SIT STORY TIME AND PRE-SCHOOL STORY HOUR
“Circus” will be the theme on Tuesday, May 19, 2009. Usually one –half-hour session is held for Lap-Sit Story Time each Tuesday at 10:00 AM with parent and child attending the story time and Pre-School Story Hour is held each Tuesday at 10:30 AM. In both sessions, children listen to stories and participate in finger plays, songs and crafts. There is no cost for this service and new families are always welcome. MICHGAN WEEK-MAY 16-22
“Great Lakes, Great Traditions-Michigan Week's mission is to inspire people - at the local level - to embrace, explore and celebrate the history, resources and opportunities that set Michigan apart as an ideal state to work, play and thrive.” Books about Michigan and books by Michigan authors will be on display throughout Michigan Week.
MEMORIAL DAY CLOSING
The library will be closed Monday, May 25th. The library will re-open on Tuesday, May 26th at its regular hours of operation.
2009 SUMMER READING PROGRAM
“Be Creative @ Your Library” is the theme for the 2009 Summer Reading Program at the Pigeon District Library. Registration begins Tuesday, May 26. Enjoy five weeks of summer fun by earning “Musical Notes” for the books you read and for participating in the activities scheduled throughout the program. When you register for the Summer Reading Program, you will receive a book bag, bookmark, pencil, SRP guidelines, and a calendar of scheduled events. This program is open to children who turn 5 by August 31st through grade 8.
LIBRARY BOARD MEETING
The Pigeon District Library Board of Trustees will meet on Thursday, May 28 at
4:30 PM in the library’s Community Room. The meeting is open to the public.
LOCAL OBITUARIES ONLINE
The library now has an online file of Huron County obituaries for patrons to view. To search for an obituary, click on the “Local Obituaries” link in the left-hand column of our home page. Then click on the first letter of the deceased person’s last name to view the names which are listed by calendar year, and then click on the name of the person. To view the obituary, click on the “Open” tab and once the information is downloaded you will then be able to read the obituary.
LIBRARY ON-LINE BOOKSHOP
If you shop on-line for movies, music or books, you can support the library by visiting the on-line bookstore instead of going to Amazon.com or other on-line sites. SUMMER SATURDAY HOURS
During June, July, and August, the library’s Saturday hours will be 9 AM -1 PM. Weekday hours remain unchanged.
