PRE-SCHOOL GRADUATION
The Pigeon District Library held a graduation ceremony during story hour on August 18 for the children who will be going to DK or Kindergarten this fall. 14 Adults and 12 children were in attendance. The graduates were Ashlee Guigar, Hannah Helmuth, Hannah Keim, Kami Maust, and Katie Turner. Each graduate received a diploma for completing story hour. Guest speakers for the event were Officer Tom Morneau and Deputy Charlie Do Right from the Huron County’s Sheriff Department. Their topic was on safety and after their presentation Deputy Do Right received hugs from the children.
LAP-SIT STORY TIME AND PRE-SCHOOL STORY HOUR
“Fun Day” will be the theme held on Tuesday, September 1, 2009. Usually one half hour session is held for Lap-Sit Story Time each Tuesday at 10:00 AM with parent and child attending the Story Time and Pre-School Story Hour is held each Tuesday at 10:30 AM. In both sessions, children listen to stories and participate in finger plays, songs and crafts. For more information, please call the library and ask for Jane Himmel.
LIBRARY BOARD MEETING
The Pigeon District Library Board of Trustees will meet Thursday, August 27 at 4:30 PM in the library’s Community Room. The meeting is open to the public.
BOOKPAGE
The August 2009 issue of BookPage has arrived and can be found in the library’s Information Center. “A monthly general interest review, BookPage covers the best in new releases. BookPage typically reviews up to 100 of each month’s new fiction, nonfiction, business, children’s, spoken word audio and how-to books. The tone is upbeat and literate, focusing on bestsellers as well as new discoveries.
CIRCULATION
Circulation for the month of July 2009 was 4,292 items, including 2,374 Books, 19 Cameras and Toys, 5 Discovery Packs, 358 DVD Rentals, 315 Videos, 58 Non-Fiction Videos and DVDs, 190 Audio and CD, 90 Periodicals, 345 Internet Users, 9 Puzzles, and 529 New Materials Check-Outs. Incomes received included $129.25 from Copier, $125.80 from Fines, and $71.00 from Faxes. Three Story Hours were held with 41 in attendance. Thirty-seven registrations for the month included: Caseville 9, Chandler 2, Fairhaven 2, Oliver 14, and Winsor 10.
SATURDAY LIBRARY HOURS
Starting September 5, Saturday hours for the library will return to the regular Saturday hours of 9 AM – 3 PM. Weekday hours remain unchanged: Monday and Friday 9 AM – 5 PM; Tuesday and Thursday 9 AM – 7 PM.
USED BOOK SALE
The Friends of the Pigeon District Library will be having its September Used Book Sale on Saturday, September 5, 2009, in the Reference Room of the library from 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM. Prices range from $.25 to $3.00. Also, don’t forget the On-Going Used Paperback Sale. Paperback books are always available on the bookshelf to the right of the aquarium in the Children’s Room.
LIBRARY CLOSED
The library will be closed on Labor Day, Monday, September 7th. The library will reopen at its regular time of 9 AM on Tuesday, September 8th.

To prevent errors from occurring, library patrons are required to present their library card or driver’s license when checking out library materials. If you are having someone else pick up your library items, you must give that person your library card or call ahead of time to let us know who will be picking up your library materials.
