ADULT WINTER READING PROGRAM
The Pigeon District Library’s Adult Winter Reading Program has begun and will end March 15. Patrons who participated last year had a lot of fun, but participation is totally optional. Weekly prize drawings will be held and participants are invited to the end-of-program party in March. LAP-SIT STORY TIME AND PRE-SCHOOL STORY HOUR
“Valentine’s Day” will be the theme for Tuesday, February 15, 2011. One half-hour session is held for Lap-Sit Story Time each Tuesday at 10:00 AM with parent and child attending the Story Time and Pre-School Story Hour is held each Tuesday at 10:30 AM. In both sessions, children listen to stories and participate in finger plays, songs and crafts. There is no cost for this service and new families are always welcome. For more information, please call the library at 453-2341 and ask for Jane Himmel.

MICHIGAN ELECTRONIC LIBRARY (MeL)
The Michigan eLibrary (http://mel.org) provides all Michigan residents with free access to online full-text articles, full-text books, digital images, and other valuable research information at any time via the Internet; and provides an easy-to-use interlibrary loan system to allow Michigan residents to borrow books and other library materials for free from participating Michigan libraries.

You can access the MeL databases, through our library website at www.pigeondistrictlibrary.com. Click on the MeL (Michigan eLibrary) link which is located in the middle of our homepage. From the next screen click on “MeL Databases” to view the list of 50+ databases which are listed in alphabetical order.

Each week the Pigeon District Library will introduce one of the databases in the Michigan eLibrary. The database chosen for this week is “General BusinessFile
ASAP.” This database is recommended for is recommended for the general user. The database is full text. It analyzes company performance and activity, industry events and trends as well as the latest in management, economics and politics. There is access to a combination of broker research reports, trade publications, newspapers, journals and company directory listings with full text and images available. Patrons are able to access this database from home if they have internet access and are a Michigan resident or have access to a Michigan library.

JEAN M.R. SMITH COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP
The Jean M.R. Smith Foundation was established in 1996 for the primary purpose of granting college scholarships to Huron County high school seniors seeking to obtain an undergraduate degree. Scholarships may be awarded to students initially attending community colleges. Applicants must be Huron County residents. Scholarship selection criteria include character, academic achievement, extra-curricular activities, community service activities and financial need. Scholarship applications are available from your high school counselor, the Bad Axe Library, or the Pigeon District Library.
