Passports are required for all foreign travel by air or sea. In four months passports will be required for land travel as well. Students planning to travel to foreign countries as part of class trips will be required to have passports. U.S. citizens who are planning to shop, fish, or visit friends in Canada will need a passport as will those who are planning cruises and visits to Mexico or South America. Passport cards are being issued also.
The Pigeon District Library, 7236 Nitz St., Pigeon MI, will host a Passport Fair on Tuesday, August 12 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm in its Community Room.

Passport applications are available at the Pigeon District Library, Pigeon Post Office, Unionville Post Office, or online at http://travel.state.gov and can be filled out in advance or at the Passport Fair.
Applicants will need two recent passport photos (available at the library fair) and a certified copy of their birth certificate (with raised seal) to be submitted with the application. The birth certificate will be returned with your passport. Identification is required in the form of a driver’s license, previous passport, military identification or Secretary of State ID.
Processing fee payments must be paid by check or money order to DEPT OF STATE for $75.00
Postal fees can be paid with cash, money order or check to POSTMASTER for $40.00 which includes the required passport photos.
Processing time for passports is taking about 2 weeks. Expedited passports can be obtained in about 1 week for an additional $74.85.
