ADULT WINTER READING PROGRAM
“Get Between the Covers and Read” is the theme of our first, adult winter reading program which started January 15 and will end March 15. We think it will be a lot of fun for our adult readers, but participation is totally optional. Local businesses have donated lots of wonderful prizes for our weekly drawings and for our end-of-program party.

CONGRATULATIONS
The library staff would like to congratulate Roma Laffrey on being the fourth winner in the weekly drawing for the Adult Winter Reading Program. Roma will receive a free book, and an 8 lb. bag of Sunkist oranges by Pigeon Food Pride.

LAP-SIT STORY TIME AND PRE-SCHOOL STORY HOUR
“Pigs” will be the theme for Tuesday, March 3, 2009. Usually one half-hour session is held for Lap-Sit Story Time each Tuesday at 10:00 AM with parent and child attending the story time and Pre-School Story Hour is held each Tuesday at 10:30 AM. In both sessions, children listen to stories and participate in finger plays, songs and crafts. There is no cost for this service and new families are always welcome. USED BOOK SALE
The Friends of the Pigeon District Library will be having its March Used Book Sale on Saturday, March 7 in the Reference Room of the library from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM. Prices range from $.25 to $3.00. Also, don’t forget the On-Going Used Paperback Sale. Paperbacks are always available on the bookshelf to the right of the aquarium in the Children’s Room.

NEW CLASS-INTRODUCTION TO CHESS
“Introduction to Chess” will be led by Michael Gaeth and is scheduled for Tuesday, March 3rd from 4:00 – 5:00 PM and Thursday, March 5th from 4:00 – 5:00 PM. Come in to learn the basics of playing the game of chess. (We will provide the game board and pieces.) If enough people are interested, a schedule will be set up so players can get together to play chess on a regular basis. Interested persons are asked to call the library at 989-453-2341 or come in to sign up for either or both sessions. If you are already an experienced chess player and are interested in playing chess on a regular basis, please stop by the library or call so your name can be given to Michael Gaeth.

Library hours are Monday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Tuesday 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Thursday 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Friday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and Saturday 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

INCLEMENT WEATHER
When the weather outside gets frightful, please call the library or listen to WLEW to make sure the library will be open for your reading needs.

MICHIGAN AND FEDERAL TAX FORMS ARE HERE!
The library has received a limited supply of Michigan and Federal tax forms. If the tax form you need is not available in paper form, someone on the library staff will assist you in retrieving it from a tax form website. We are pleased to be a source for income tax forms but wish to remind everyone that library staff members are not tax professionals and cannot provide tax advice or assistance with e-filing and tax preparation.

BOOKPAGE
The February 2009 issue of BookPage has arrived and can be found in the library’s Information Center. “A monthly general interest review, BookPage covers the best in new releases. BookPage typically reviews up to 100 of each month’s new fiction, nonfiction, business, children’s, spoken word audio, and how-to books. The tone is upbeat and literate, focusing on bestsellers as well as new discoveries.” BookPage can also be accessed through the internet at www.bookpage.com.
