FREE CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS
Come in from the cold and take advantage of our FREE classes and workshops which began in January and continue in February. Classes include rag quilting, social networking sites, and digital photography. Though the classes are free, class size is limited and registration is required. ADULT WINTER READING PROGRAM
“Get Between the Covers and Read” is the theme of our first, adult winter reading program which started January 15 and will end March 15. We think it will be a lot of fun for our adult readers, but participation is totally optional. Local businesses have donated lots of wonderful prizes for our weekly drawings and for our end-of-program party.

CONGRATULATIONS
The library staff would like to congratulate Tom Perry on being the second winner in the weekly drawing for the Adult Winter Reading Program. Tom received a free book and a Seed Wreath for Wild Birds donated by Pigeon Hardware.

LAP-SIT STORY TIME AND PRE-SCHOOL STORY HOUR
“President’s Day” will be the theme for Tuesday, February 17, 2009. Usually one half-hour session is held for Lap-Sit Story Time each Tuesday at 10:00 AM with parent and child attending the story time and Pre-School Story Hour is held each Tuesday at 10:30 AM. In both sessions, children listen to stories and participate in finger plays, songs and crafts. There is no cost for this service and new families are always welcome. FRIENDS OF THE PIGEON DISTRICT LIBRARY
You can support the library by becoming a member of the Friends of the Pigeon District Library. Initial membership is $10.00 and then $5.00 each year thereafter. Join us at our next meeting on February 19, 2008 at 6:00 PM.

BOOK CLUB

When the weather outside gets frightful, please call the library or listen to WLEW to make sure the library will be open for your reading needs.

MICHIGAN AND FEDERAL TAX FORMS ARE HERE!
The library has received a limited supply of Michigan and Federal tax forms. If the tax form you need is not available in paper form, someone on the library staff will assist you in retrieving it from a tax form website. We are pleased to be a source for income tax forms but wish to remind everyone that library staff members are not tax professionals and cannot provide tax advice or assistance with e-filing and tax preparation.

BOOKPAGE
The February 2009 issue of BookPage has arrived and can be found in the library’s Information Center. “A monthly general interest review, BookPage covers the best in new releases. BookPage typically reviews up to 100 of each month’s new fiction, nonfiction, business, children’s, spoken word audio, and how-to books. The tone is upbeat and literate, focusing on bestsellers as well as new discoveries.” BookPage can also be accessed through the internet at http://www.bookpage.com/.

CIRCULATION
Circulation for the month of January 2009 was 3,619 items, including 1,850 Books, 17 Cameras and Toys, 7 Discovery Packs, 418 DVD Rentals, 342 Videos, 92 Audio and CD, 86 Periodicals, 265 Internet Users, 17 Puzzles, and 475 New Materials. Four Story Hours were held with 29 in attendance. Thirty registrations for the month included: Caseville 9, Chandler 1, Fairhaven 8, McKinley 4, Oliver 5, and Winsor 3.
