PRE-SCHOOL GRADUATION
The Pigeon District Library held a graduation ceremony during story hour on August 24 for the children who will be going to DK or Kindergarten this fall. Fifteen adults and twenty children were in attendance. The graduates were Isabella Herford, Heidi Keim, Alexis Stafford, Grace Trost, and Brianna Yoder. Each graduate received a diploma for completing story hour. Guest speakers were Officer Tom Morneau and Deputy Charlie Do Right from the Huron County’s Sheriff Department. Their topic was on safety and after their presentation Deputy Do Right received hugs from the children.

Saturday Library Hours
Starting September 4, Saturday hours for the library will return to the regular Saturday hours of 9 AM – 3 PM. Weekday hours remain unchanged: Monday and Friday 9 AM – 5 PM; Tuesday and Thursday 9 AM – 7 PM.

LIBRARY CLOSED
The library will be closed on Labor Day, Monday, September 6th. The library will reopen at its regular time of 9 AM on Tuesday, September 7th.

LAP-SIT STORY TIME AND PRE-SCHOOL STORY HOUR
There will be no Lap-Sit or Pre-School Story Hour on September 7, 2010. Lap-Sit and Story Hour will resume on September 14, 2010 at their scheduled times. For more information, please call the library at 453-2341 and ask for Jane Himmel.

ENRICHMENT PROGRAM
During the fall the Pigeon District Library is offering a once-a-month late afternoon program for preschoolers and for children in grades K-2. The program for preschoolers and grades K-2 will include a story, craft, and other activities. These fall programs will take place during the months of September, October, and November. Please call at 453-2341 for further information.

Program Theme: “Bugs, Bats, and Bears—Oh My!” Time of program is 4:00 PM in the library’s Community Room. The schedule for the afternoon program is as follows: September 7: Preschool Session; September 14: K-2 Session
October 5: Preschool Session; October 12: K-2 Session
November 2: Preschool Session; November 9: K-2 Session

“A suburban family moves to a new neighborhood with their large yet lovable Great Dane, who has a tendency to wreak havoc in his own oblivious way.” The movie will be shown on a 7 foot by 7 foot screen in the Community Room of the library.

MICHIGAN ELECTRONIC LIBRARY (MeL)
The Michigan eLibrary (http://mel.org/) provides all Michigan residents with free access to online full-text articles, full-text books, digital images, and other valuable research information at any time via the Internet; and provides an easy-to-use interlibrary loan system to allow Michigan residents to borrow books and other library materials for free from participating Michigan libraries.

You can access the MeL databases, through our library website at http://www.pigeondistrictlibrary.com/. Click on the MeL (Michigan eLibrary) link which is located in the middle of our homepage. From the next screen click on “MeL Databases” to view the list of 50+ databases which are listed in alphabetical order.

Each week the Pigeon District Library will introduce one of the databases in the Michigan eLibrary. The database chosen for this week is “ArchiveGrid”. This database is recommended for the general user. Thousands of libraries, museums, and archives have contributed nearly a million collection descriptions to “ArchiveGrid”. Researchers can learn about the many items in each of these collections, contact archives to arrange a visit to examine materials, and order copies. Patrons are able to access this database from home if they have internet access and are a Michigan resident or have access to a Michigan library.
