ADULT WINTER READING PROGRAM
The Pigeon District Library’s Adult Winter Reading Program has begun and will end March 15. Patrons who participated last year had a lot of fun, but participation is totally optional. Weekly prize drawings will be held and participants are invited to the end-of-program party in March.

LAP-SIT STORY TIME AND PRE-SCHOOL STORY HOUR
“Martin Luther King, Jr” will be the theme for Tuesday, January 18, 2011. One half-hour session is held for Lap-Sit Story Time each Tuesday at 10:00 AM with parent and child attending the Story Time and Pre-School Story Hour is held each Tuesday at 10:30 AM. In both sessions, children listen to stories and participate in finger plays, songs and crafts. There is no cost for this service and new families are always welcome. HURON AREA WRITERS GROUP (HAWG)
The Huron Area Writer’s Group will be having their monthly meeting January 20, 2011 at 6:30 PM in the library’s Community Room. All writers, not matter what skill level, are invited to the HAWG meeting.

BOOKPAGE
The January 2011 issue of BookPage has arrived and can be found in the library’s Information Center. “A monthly general interest book review, BookPage covers the best in new releases. BookPage typically reviews up to 100 of each month’s new fiction, nonfiction, business, children’s, audio, and how-to books. The tone is upbeat and literate, focusing on bestsellers as well as new discoveries.” BookPage can also be accessed through the internet at http://www.bookpage.com/.

COFFEE TIME AT THE LIBRARY
Hot coffee, cocoa, and tea are available on Thursdays in the Reference Room of the library. Come and relax with a cup of coffee, cocoa, or tea while reading the newspaper or visiting with fellow readers.

When the weather outside gets frightful, please call the library or listen to WLEW to make sure the library will be open for your reading needs.

MICHIGAN ELECTRONIC LIBRARY (MeL)
The Michigan eLibrary (http://mel.org/) provides all Michigan residents with free access to online full-text articles, full-text books, digital images, and other valuable research information at any time via the Internet; and provides an easy-to-use interlibrary loan system to allow Michigan residents to borrow books and other library materials for free from participating Michigan libraries. You can access the MeL databases, through our library website at http://www.pigeondistrictlibrary.com/. Click on the MeL (Michigan eLibrary) link which is located in the middle of our homepage. From the next screen click on “MeL Databases” to view the list of 50+ databases which are listed in alphabetical order. Each week the Pigeon District Library will introduce one of the databases in the Michigan eLibrary. The database chosen for this week is “ERIC.” This database is recommended for educators and parents. “ERIC” is mostly full text and contains annotated references to non-journal material issued in the monthly Resources in Education (RIE) and to journal articles issued in the monthly Current Index to Journals in Education (CIJE).” Patrons are able to access this database from home is they have internet access and are a Michigan resident or have access to a Michigan library.
