MEMORIAL DAY CLOSING
The library will be closed Monday, May 30th. The library will re-open on Tuesday, May 31st at its regular time.

PRE-SCHOOL STORY HOUR
“Memorial Day” will be the theme for Tuesday, May 31, 2011. Pre-School Story Hour is usually held each Tuesday at 10:30 AM. Children listen to stories and participate in finger plays, songs and crafts. There is no cost for this service and new families are always welcome. For more information, please call the library at 453-2341 and ask for Jane Himmel.

BOOK CLUB
The book for discussion at the May meeting will be “The Faith Club: a Muslim, a Christian, a Jew-- Three Women Search for Understanding” by Ranya Idliby, Suzanne Oliver, and Priscilla Warner. The next scheduled meeting is Tuesday, May 31 at 4:30 PM. If you or someone you know would like to join us for a discussion on this book, please call the library and ask for Jane Himmel.

INFORMATION CENTER
The library has received copies of the Michigan Campground 2011 Directory and Michigan’s Original Thumb Area Vacation Guide as well as brochures and/or fliers of events in the area. These can be found on the table or in the display racks of the library’s Information Center which is located just inside the Nitz Street entrance. All materials in the Information Center are free.

SATURDAY SUMMER HOURS
During June, July, and August, the library’s Saturday hours will be 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM. Hours for the other days will be-Monday and Friday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Tuesday and Thursday 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM.

2011 SUMMER READING PROGRAM
“One World, Many Stories” is the theme for the 2011 Summer Reading Program at the Pigeon District Library. Registration will begin on Tuesday, May 31st. Enjoy five weeks of summer fun by earning “dollars” for the books you read and for participating in the activities throughout the program. This program will be open to children age 5 by August 31st through grade 8, who live in the library’s service area or attend a school in the library’s service area.

LEMONADE TIME AT THE LIBRARY
Cold lemonade is now available on Thursdays in the Reference Room of the library. Come and relax with a cup of lemonade while reading the newspaper or visiting with fellow readers.

MICHIGAN ELECTRONIC LIBRARY (MeL)
The Michigan eLibrary (http://mel.org) provides all Michigan residents with free access to online full-text articles, full-text books, digital images, and other valuable research information at any time via the Internet; and provides an easy-to-use interlibrary loan system to allow Michigan residents to borrow books and other library materials for free from participating Michigan libraries.

You can access the MeL databases, through our library website at www.pigeondistrictlibrary.com. Click on the Mel (Michigan eLibrary) link which is located in the right hand column of our homepage. From the next screen click on “MeL Databases” to view the list of 50+ databases which are listed in alphabetical order.

Each week the Pigeon District Library will introduce one of the databases in the Michigan eLibrary. The database chosen for this week is “Job and Career Accelerator.” This database is recommended for the General user. Easy-to-use online application combining everything you need for a successful job search. This innovative job hunting system enables users to explore, in detail, over 1,000 different occupations and match interests and skills with the career that’s best. It allows searches for over five million recent local and national job postings while conveniently organizing and tracking the users' job search progress, all in one place. In addition, job seekers can create professional resumes and cover letters as well as practice and master interviewing skills. Patrons are able to access this database from home if they have internet access and are a Michigan resident or have access to a Michigan library.
