2012 SUMMER READING PROGRAM PARTY!
Fun was had by all at the Summer Reading Program Party, which was held in the Pigeon District Library’s Community Room on July 12, 2012. The party was the culminating event for the library’s summer program. Throughout the five-week program, participants were able to earn SRP money which then could be traded in for prizes. The library appreciates the donation from Bay Port state Bank which was used to purchase some of those prizes. At the party sixty reading program participants and their thirty-three family members enjoyed juice drinks and bottled water courtesy of Independent Bank and fruit snacks and chips which were provided by the library.

Thumb National Bank donated four piggy banks-each filled with $25.00 in quarters. The following participants won one of these banks in a special drawing for those who earned at least $25 in SRP money during the five-week program-Morgan Chandler, Nathan Cole, Jack Turner, and Katie Turner. The remaining names were combined and Brooklyn Beachy and Grace Heiden each received $25.00 cash from the Pigeon District Library. The names of the readers that met their goal were put into a drawing for the chance to win one of several gift certificates from HarJo’s Ben Franklin, Little Caesar’s, Papa’s Pizza, and Pigeon Hardware which were provided by Independent Bank or a choice of several other prizes from the prize table. Numerous other drawings for prizes were held and every SRP participant left the party with many prizes.

Every participant who turned in their reading log received a treat bag which included items from Bay Port State Bank and Independent Bank. Each participant also received their choice of a free book.

The library staff expresses their deepest appreciation to all the businesses and individuals who made donations to our Summer Reading Program- AVCI.net, Jeanette Bach, Bay Port State Bank, Bay Theatre-Caseville, Clara Judge, Harjo’s Ben Franklin, Burger King-Bad Axe, Jane Himmel, Independent Bank-Pigeon, Pigeon Hardware, Kathleen Mallett, Thumb Cellular-Pigeon and Thumb National Bank.
