2013 SUMMER READING PROGRAM
“Dig Into Reading” is the theme for the 2012 Summer Reading Program at the Pigeon District Library. Registration will begin on Monday, May 20th. Enjoy five weeks of summer fun by earning “Dream Dollars” for the books you read and for participating in the activities throughout the program. This program will be open to children age 5 by August 31st through grade 8, who live in the library’s service area or attend a school in the library’s service area.

LAP-SIT STORY TIME AND PRE-SCHOOL STORY HOUR
“Circus” will be the theme for Tuesday, May 21, 2013. A half-hour Lap-Sit Story Time is held for toddlers at 10:00 AM with parent and child attending the story time and Pre-School Story Hour is held at 10:30 AM. In both sessions, children listen to stories and participate in finger plays, songs, and crafts. There is no cost for this service and new families are always welcome. RONALD McDONALD– MAY 21 at 5 PM
Ronald McDonald will help kick-off our summer reading program on Tuesday, May 21st at 5:00 PM in the library’s Community Room. Families are invited to attend the event where Ronald will entertain everyone with his jokes and magic tricks. That same evening, children who will be 5 years of age by August 31st and those entering grade K-8 in the fall will be able to sign up for the library’s summer reading program which always is a lot of fun!

LIBRARY BOARD MEETING
The Pigeon District Library Board of Trustees will meet Thursday, May 23 at 4:30 PM in the library’s Community Room. The meeting is open to the public.

MEMORIAL DAY CLOSING
The library will be closed Monday, May 27, so staff may observe the holiday with family and friends. The library will re-open on Tuesday, May 28th at its regular time.

BOOKPAGE
The May 2013 issue of BookPage has arrived and can be found in the library’s Information Center. “A monthly general interest review, BookPage covers the best in new releases. BookPage typically reviews up to 100 of each month’s new fiction, nonfiction, business, childrens’, spoken word audio and how-to books. The tone is upbeat and literate, focusing on bestsellers as well as new discoveries.”

CIRCULATION
Circulation for April 2013 was 2,559 items including 1,482 Books, 3 Toys, 11 Discovery Packs, 254 DVD Rentals, 138 Video Checkouts, 105 Audio, Books on CD and Playaways, Internet Users 185, 77 Magazines, 10 Puzzles, 1 Reference-7 Day Checkout, 421 New Materials, and 48 NF Videos and DVDs. Inter-loan statistics included 263 items borrowed and 345 items loaned to other libraries through Valley Library Consortium and 93 items borrowed and 41 items loaned to other libraries through MelCat, and 8 items were loaned to other libraries through the Peabody system. Statistics included 31 Overdrive Audio Books and 83 E-Books. Income received included $122.90 from Copier, $192.95 from Fines, and $35.00 from Faxes. Twenty-one registrations for the month included: Caseville 2, City of Caseville 2, Fairhaven 4, McKinley 3, Oliver 5, and Winsor 5.

PIGEON DISTRICT LIBRARY SERVICES AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC
The library provides many services for its patrons and general public:

Computer Use - Patrons and visitors wishing to access the Internet must have a signed internet policy on file. There is no usage fee and wireless Internet service is also available.

Book Club-The book club meets in the library’s Community Room on the last Tuesday of every month at 6:30 PM.

Black and white copies can be made in the following sizes:

8.5 inches by 11 inches - 10 cents per side

8.5 inches by 14 inches - 10 cents per side

11 inches by 17 inches - 25 cents per side

Color copies can be made in the following sizes:

8.5 inches by 11 inches - 50 cents per side

8.5 inches by 14 inches - 75 cents per side

11 inches by 17 inches - $1.00 per side

Fax Services - Faxes may be sent from and received at the library. The following prices apply: Cover sheet - no charge when it contains nothing other than contact information. Each page sent with or without cover page - $1.00. When sending a fax, be sure to take the Fax Transmission Receipt with you when you are finished.
