SATURDAY LIBRARY HOURS
Starting September 5, Saturday hours for the library will return to the regular Saturday hours of 9 AM – 3 PM. Weekday hours remain unchanged: Monday and Friday 9 AM – 5 PM; Tuesday and Thursday 9 AM – 7 PM.

USED BOOK SALE
The Friends of the Pigeon District Library will be having its September Used Book Sale on Saturday, September 5, 2009, in the Reference Room of the library from 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM. Prices range from $.25 to $3.00. Also, don’t forget the On-Going Used Paperback Sale. Paperback books are always available on the bookshelf to the right of the aquarium in the Children’s Room.

LIBRARY CLOSED
The library will be closed on Labor Day, Monday, September 7th. The library will reopen at its regular time of 9 AM on Tuesday, September 8th.

LAP-SIT STORY TIME AND PRE-SCHOOL STORY HOUR
There will be no Lap-Sit or Pre-School Story Hour on September 8, 2009. Lap-Sit and Story Hour will resume on September 15, 2009 at their scheduled times. For more information, please call the library at 453-2341 and ask for Jane Himmel.

LIBRARY CLOSED SEPTEMBER 10TH
In response to the Governor’s Executive Order closing the Library of Michigan, the Pigeon District Library will join other libraries across Michigan and close its doors on Thursday, September 10, 2009 so staff can attend an event promoted by the Michigan Library Association and the Michigan Library Consortium.

The September 10th Rally will demonstrate to officials in Lansing that libraries are important to people and their daily lives. Organizers hope to convince legislators to maintain $10 million in state aid to libraries and to support efforts to keep the Library of Michigan as a whole unit with the state government. The goal, also, is to convince the Governor to include library officials on the planning committee which will determine the use of the building and collections currently housed in the Michigan Historical Center and Library of Michigan building.

BOOKPAGE
The September 2009 issue of BookPage has arrived and can be found in the library’s Information Center. “A monthly general interest review, BookPage covers the best in new releases. BookPage typically reviews up to 100 of each month’s new fiction, nonfiction, business, children’s, spoken word audio and how-to books. The tone is upbeat and literate, focusing on bestsellers as well as new discoveries.

PASSPORT FAIR
The Pigeon District Library is hosting a Passport Fair on Thursday, September 17th from 1:30 PM to 6:00 PM in the library’s Community Room. An adult passport including the picture is $115.00. If you bring a picture of yourself, the cost is $100.00, but the picture must be acceptable. A child’s passport is $65.00, but is only good for 5 years. Prospective consumers need to bring their birth certificate with the embossed seal and a picture ID, like a driver’s license. Check or cash are the acceptable methods of payment.

DON’T FORGET YOUR LIBRARY CARD
To prevent errors from occurring, library patrons are required to present their library card or driver’s license when checking out library materials. If you are having someone else pick up your library items, you must give that person your library card or call ahead of time to let us know who will be picking up your library materials.
