TAIL WAGGIN’ TUTORS-APRIL 11
Tail Waggin’ Tutors is a library program which uses therapy dogs. Children in grades K-4 are encouraged to come to the library and read to Bella who is owned by Sandy Chalou, Paddy who is owned by Bernie Dezenski, or Reese who is owned by Jerry & Yvonne Greer. The goal is to encourage children to read by providing a relaxed, non-judgmental environment where children can feel comfortable reading aloud to a furry friend. The dogs are licensed, certified and insured – one through Therapy Dogs, Inc. and two through Therapy Dogs, International.

Pre-registration is required for the program which is offered on the second Thursday of each month between 4:00 PM and 500 PM. A child who signs up for the program will spend ten minutes reading aloud to one of the therapy dogs (and its handler). Bella, Paddy, and Reese will be
at the library on Thursday, April 11th from 4 PM – 5 PM. If your child is interested in reading to one of our “Tail Waggin’ Tutors”, please call the library at 453- 2341 to sign-up for an available time slot.

NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK: APRIL 14-20
“Communities matter @ your library”
This week, the Pigeon District Library joins libraries in schools, campuses and communities naionwide in celebrating National Library Week, a time to highlight the value of libraries, librarians and library workers. First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April.

The Pigeon District Library will have author Ken Rogers speaking on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder on Tuesday, April 16 at 7:00 PM and the Musical Jamboree will be held on Thursday, April 18 at 7:00 PM. So, come into the library during National Library Week and see what the library can do for you.

AUTHOR TO SPEAK ON POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER
On Tuesday, April 16th, at 7:00 PM, the Pigeon District Library will host Ken Rogers, a life-long Michigan resident and author of the book "Post Traumatic Stress Disorder: A Police Officer's Report". Ken says, "I have written a book about my personal experiences serving as a Police Officer and my involvement in the shooting of a barricaded gunman. The emotional issues which followed including suffering Post Traumatic Stress Disorder changed my life forever. My desire is that other First Responders understand that they are not alone in their feelings of isolation and depression. With help and knowledge they can survive a critical incident and the possibility of developing PTSD."
The free program is open to everyone who has an interest in post traumatic stress disorder and in learning how Ken dealt with his PTSD.

MUSICAL JAMBOREE– APRIL 18
Each year the library hosts a Musical Jamboree during National Library Week. This year the Jamboree will be held on Thursday evening, April 18th beginning at 7:00 PM in the library’s Community Room. Staff members are looking for talented individuals of all ages who are willing to share their talent with the community by performing a vocal or instrumental selection that evening. If this interests you, please call the library at 989-453- 2341 and speak with a staff member who will answer your questions and add your name to the list of performers for the event.
