NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK: APRIL 14-20
“Communities matter @ your library”
This week, the Pigeon District Library joins libraries in schools, campuses and communities nationwide in celebrating National Library Week, a time to highlight the value of libraries, librarians and library workers. First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April.

CENTENNIAL ANNIVERSARY
The Pigeon District Library has been serving area residents for the last one hundred years and is kicking off its centennial anniversary activities during National Library Week. Everyone is invited to stop by to see the ibrary’s historical display on the wall of the hallway which leads from the library to the Community Room. Everyone who stops by will receive a Centennial Bookmark that commemorates the library’s 100th anniversary.

Patrons can participate in some special drawings during the week and everyone is invited to the Tuesday evening and Thursday evening events which are free to the public. (Please see the information about author Ken Rogers and Musical Jamboree for details on those events.)

AUTHOR KEN ROGERS TO SPEAK ON POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER - APRIL 16 On Tuesday, April 16th, at 7:00 PM, the Pigeon District Library will host Ken Rogers, a life-long Michigan resident and author of the book "Post Traumatic Stress Disorder: A Police Officer's Report". Ken says, "I have written a book about my personal experiences serving as a Police Officer and any involvement in the shooting of a barricaded gunman. The emotional issues which followed including suffering Post Traumatic Stress Disorder changed my life forever. My desire is that other First Responders understand that they are not alone in their feelings of isolation and depression. With help and knowledge they can survive a critical incident and the possibility of developing PTSD."

The free program is open to everyone who has an interest in post traumatic stress disorder and in learning how Ken dealt with his PTSD.

MUSICAL JAMBOREE– APRIL 18
Each year the library hosts a Musical Jamboree during National Library Week. This year the jamboree will be held on Thursday evening, April 18th beginning at 7:00 PM in the library’s Community Room. This FREE event is open to the public and features many talented individuals from the area who will be performing a variety of vocal and instrumental selections.

FREE FAMILY MOVIE
Tuesday, April 23rd at 4:30 PM
“Wreck-It Ralph” Rated: PG Time: 108 Minutes
“Wreck-It Ralph” is a very funny film about an arcade game "bad guy" (John C. Reilly) who's tired of being overshadowed by "good guy" Fix-It Felix Jr. (Jack McBrayer) and goes game jumping while the arcade is closed in an attempt to reinvent himself. Felix heads out to drag the oversize Ralph back to their own game, and the pair travels through a time warp of arcade games from the past 30 years that's absolutely hilarious and will cause you to never look at an electrical outlet or surge protector in the same way again.”
